How To Stay Organized

It is not getting organized that is difficult, rather it is staying organized that causes the most frustration for people. The key is knowing how to maintain your responsibilities in a way that is functional for you. Staying organized does not necessarily mean having the neatest desk at work or color coding your agenda planner. It is all about what you need to do to stay on track and not fall behind with your responsibilities.

Here are some tips that may aid in your journey to organization:

- Don’t know where to begin? Try starting out fresh. Clean your workspace or area that needs organizing! Don’t be afraid to throw away things.
- Make a list to keep track of everything that you need to complete.
- If you are someone who has a lot of obligations and dates to remember then getting an agenda planner will certainly be helpful for you.
- Keeping a notebook or notepad around can be helpful. You never know when you will need to jot something down.
- Set aside time to work on specific tasks so that you do not become overwhelmed.
- If setting aside time for specific tasks works for you then begin establishing routines.
- Once you have a steady routine you will be surprised how much more you can complete in a day.
- Utilize the latest software and applications
a) Do you have a ton of e-mail addresses that you are constantly logging in and out of? Try MacMail if you use a Mac. It allows you to sync multiple e-mail addresses in one account.
b) Are you working on an assignment which a bunch of other people? Then you have got to try Google Docs! It allows multiple people to access the same documents and make changes. (We use it here at Hey Cole all the time!)
c) Don’t forget to utilize the apps on your phone. Try out the free app on the iPhone or Droid called “Remember the Milk”
- Be sure to respond to e-mails and phone calls in a timely manner. Not doing so can convey to the other person that you are not organized.
- If you are a visual person than color-coding might be perfect for you. Try color coding your agenda planner.
- Once you are confident in your organizational habits, start planning ahead. Being aware of future events can only benefit and keep you organized.

We will leave you with a quote from Cole, the Mastermind, here at Hey Cole… “If you stay organized, you can’t procrastinate!”
